Day One Results | Round Three Pairings
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – In its first action of the 2023 calendar slate, the UCF men's golf team put together a pair of strong rounds on Sunday at Sawgrass Country Club to end the first day of play at The Hayt Collegiate in fourth place with a 580 (+4).
The Knights shot a 294 (+6) in the first round and followed that with a 286 (-2) in the second round to end the day four over par.
UCF is one of just four programs with at least three golfers among the top 20 after the first two rounds, joining second-ranked Vanderbilt, No. 42 North Florida and Louisiana Tech.
After finishing as the runner-up at the Latin America Amateur Championship on Jan. 15, Luis Carrera continued his strong play as he is tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard following the first two rounds. He shot a 72 (E) in the first round and a 69 (-3) in the second round to end the day with a 141, three under.
Carrera carded eight birdies on the day with three in the opening round and five in round two.
Johnny Travale is tied for 14th with a 143 (-1) thanks to a 72 (E) in the first round and a 71 (-1) in the second. Travale had six birdies on the day, headlined by a birdie on holes No. 11, 14 and 15 in the second round.
With a score of 145 (+1) following the conclusion of the day, Egor Eroshenko is also among the top 20 individuals in the field. Eroshenko was one over (73) in round one and even in round two. He also had six birdies on the day with five on them on the back nine.
Markus Braadlie is seven over (151) after Sunday's play, while Tom Stephens, who made his UCF debut on Sunday, recorded a 157 (+13). Braadlie carded an eagle on hole No. 8 (par 5) in the second round.
Competing as an individual, Juan Camilo Vesga shot a 77 (+5) in the first round and was two over in the second round when play was suspended due to darkness. He will play the final two holes of round two Monday morning prior to starting the third round.
UCF will tee off at 9:15 a.m. Monday morning on hole No. 1.
