No. 19 Knights Fall to No. 15 Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, TENN. – The No. 19 UCF women's tennis team fell to No. 15 Vanderbilt on Friday night. After a slow doubles start, the Knights fell short in securing the four singles courts needed to win, dropping 1-4.

The Knights struggled in doubles, failing to secure any of the courts. The slow start continued into singles, with Vanderbilt quickly taking court four to gain a 2-0 lead in the match. No. 48 Marie Mattel added another ranked win to her record after taking down the 34th-ranked single on court one. She battled out the first set 7-5, then gained momentum to win the second set and match 6-2, putting the Knights on the board.

The Commodores came back quickly, taking court five and three not long after Mattel's victory to clinch the match. Freshman Stefani Webb fought until the end in just her third collegiate match, going head-to-head against No. 85 Staff, going to three sets before the match went unfinished. Sophomore Noel Saidenova also battled hard, pushing No. 27 Bridget Stammel to three sets, before ultimately falling just short.
