ORLANDO – For the fifth time in her career, Rayniah Jones has won the American Athletic Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, announced the league office this afternoon. Jones, who set a new season-best with her 8.08 time in the 60-meter hurdles semis at the Tiger-Paw Invite on Friday, was honored with the award for the second time this season.
All three of her marks in this weekend's meet at Clemson fell under 8.12, the lowest set of times in the season thus far for the All-American. In the prelims, Jones ran her first 8.12 of the day, winning her heat and finishing second overall. In the semis, where she ran the 12th fastest time in the nation this season, she won her heat yet again which included Kaylor Harris who advanced to the finals as well.
Jones ran her second 8.12 of the day in the finals, taking third in the event. The podium finish is the best in Jones's four career meets at Clemson, dating back to her first in 2020. On Saturday, Jones set yet another season-best in the 200-meter dash with her time of 24.01.
The junior's first Track Athlete of the Week honor came following the first meet of the season and now with her second secured, Jones turns her attention towards the Conference Championships where last season, she won three events (60, 200, 60H) in route to the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships.
