GAINESVILLE - The UCF track and field squad wrapped up their trip to the Alachua County Invite with an impressive showing on Friday. With just 10 Knights making the short trip north, they all made progress towards the final weeks of the indoor season, with distance following up last week's great showing with two new times that have broken into the top-three in program history.
On Thursday, Penelope Sosa took the spotlight as the only runner competing, setting a new personal record in the mile with a time of 8.54. Taking third in the event, the freshman standout from the cross-country season has established herself at the forefront of the squad for years to come. Paige Kelly also set a new personal best in the 800m to get distance underway, finishing in 2:20.60 and taking fourth. Isabella Richardson, who also looks to have a great first season following her strong cross-country campaign, also set a new personal record in the 3k with a time of 9:43.66 and is now second all time in the 3k. Mariana Rodriguez, at 9:50.00 is just second behind in her in third. They sit just behind former All-American Anne-Marie Blaney.
The 60-meter squads took care of business, taking first in both events, along with Ani Wells and I'Asia Wilson rounding out the top 10. Kaylor Harris won the hurdles in dominating fashion with a time of 8.25 and Daija Lampkin followed, taking first in the dash in 7.36. Kai'lyn Kirkland topped the field in the 400m, winning in 57.17.
