ORLANDO – For the fifth time through eight weeks of the 2022-23 season, Taylor Hendricks has been named as the American Athletic Conference's Rookie of the Week.
Hendricks is one more nod away from tying the conference record for most Rookie of the Week honors. Currently, three Memphis players hold The American record with six Rookie of the Week awards. Jalen Duren was the most recent to do it, accomplishing the feat last season while Precious Achiuwa did it in 2019-20 and Dedric Lawson did it 2015-16. Hendricks has already set the conference record for most consecutive Rookie of the Week honors, earning the nod four weeks in a row from Nov. 21-Dec. 2.
This week, Hendricks and the Knights embarked on their first two games of conference play. UCF held Wichita State to just 45 points in the conference opener, the third time this season the Black and Gold have held the opposition to under 50 points. Hendricks picked up two blocks and a steal in contest while scoring nine points, collecting five rebounds and tallying an assist.
The Knights gave No. 3 Houston a run for their money on the road Saturday, a contest the Cougars won by just six in a 71-65 final. Hendricks was tied for the team lead in points with 14 while gathering five boards and a pair of assists.
Overall, Hendricks remains the team's scoring leader, averaging 14.8 points per game while earning 6.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. Hendricks is 60th in the country and third in the conference with a total of 23 blocks and 66th in the country when it comes to blocks per game. He is shooting 46.8% from the floor which ranks sixth in the conference and 180th nationally and shoots 41% from beyond the arc.
The five Rookie of the Week honors cover nine of UCF's 14 games played thus far. During those nine games, Hendricks has tallied 13.9 points a game with 6.3 rebounds, shooting 49.4% from the field and 42.5% from three-point land.
