NAPLES - Jantje Tilbuerger, a freshman on the UCF women's tennis team, advanced to the second round of the qualifying draw at the ITF W25 in Naples, Florida, this week. This tournament marked the first outing of 2023 for the Knights.
Tilbuerger, who is ranked No. 830 in WTA singles, faced a tough matchup in the first round of the qualifying draw in No. 485 Emily Appleton. The match was tight, but Tilbuerger came out on top, winning in straight sets by a score of 7-6, 7-6 to earn a strong ranked win.
In the second round of the qualifying draw, Tilbuerger went head-to-head against No. 578 Makenna Jones. This was where her tournament run came to an end, as Tilbuerger fell to Jones in a tight 4-6, 5-7 contest.
UP NEXT
The next tournament for the Knights will be the ITF W25 in Boca Raton, which kicks off Monday, Jan. 16. The team will start its 2023 dual match season on Jan. 21, when it hosts Stetson at 11 a.m. at the USTA National Campus.
