ORLANDO – For the third consecutive week, UCF men's basketball's Taylor Hendricks has been named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week. C.J. Kelly earned a spot on the conference's honor roll.
The Knights only played in one contest this week, but Hendricks shone bright in it. He dropped 21 points, just two points shy of his career high which he set on opening night. He missed just one shot from the field, going six-for-seven including four-of-five from beyond the arc.
Hendricks is now shooting 45.7% from three which is second in the conference. He is 10th in overall scoring in the conference play, averaging 15.5 points per game, and is ninth in The American in rebounds, recording a 6.9 per game clip.
Just four weeks into the season, Hendricks already has three Rookie of the Week honors. He is just the second player in The American's history to accomplish the feat, matching Memphis' Austin Nichols who went back-to-back-to-back during the 2013-14 season. Hendricks ties former Knights Isaiah Adams, Ceasar DeJesus, Adonys Henriquez and B.J. Taylor for most Rookie of the Week nods in program history.
Kelly earned a spot on the honor roll this week after dropping 16 points in the team's victory over Samford, nailing three triples and collecting six rebounds in the process. He now has scored 15 points or more in four of the team's eight games.
UP NEXT
The Knights, in the midst of end-of-semester finals, will have a week to prepare for their next matchup, a home tilt against Tarleton State Dec. 11 with a noon tipoff.
