ORLANDO—The UCF women's basketball team will take on Idaho State and Elon in the UCF Christmas Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Knights will face Idaho State on Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. and Elon on Dec. 21 at 12 p.m. All matchups will be hosted at Addition Financial Arena and will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Black and Gold are 6-3 on the season, falling to Tennessee on Dec. 14. After a strong start in the first half, the Lady Vols came out scoring left and right.
Three Knights earned double-digit point nights against the Lady Vols, Mya Burns, Sierra Godbolt and Laila Jewett. Burns scored 12 points and tallied six rebounds. Godbolt notched a season-high 11 points adding in six assists. Jewett recorded her fourth double-digit points game with 10.
Idaho State
The Bengals are currently on a three-game win streak, after going on a three-game losing streak against USC, UCSB, and Washington, bringing their record to 5-4. Tuesday will mark the second all-time meeting between Idaho State and UCF, with their last matchup being back in November of 2021 in Rivera Maya, Mexico. The Knights took that game with a score of 58-41.
Callie Bourne's 13.6 points and 4.2 assists per game are both team-high stats for Idaho State. The graduate student has started in all nine games this season, averaging 35.9 minutes per game. Finley Garnett is second on the team in total points with 94, averaging 10.4.
Elon
The Phoenix are currently 4-5 on the 2022-23 season, dropping back-to-back games to Richmond and Davidson. Freshman Preston Raven leads in total points for Elon, with 133 points in nine games this season. Raven also leads the charge with 71 rebounds and 12 steals.
This will be the second ever meeting between the two teams. In the last matchup on November 22, 2017, Elon won with a final score of 71-57.
