ORLANDO – After a phenomenal week that saw him named the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship MVP, Taylor Hendricks has now been tabbed as the American Athletic Conference's Rookie of the Week.
The Knights went 3-0 on the week, topping Western Illinois, Oklahoma State and Santa Clara. Hendricks played a role in all three victories but put up some big numbers in the final two games of the week in Nassau.
Hendricks posted his second career double-double on Friday against Oklahoma State, scoring 16 points and snatching 12 rebounds. He is the only player on the Knights to earn a double-double this season and he has already done it twice, the other time against FSU on Nov. 11. The Knights came back from down 17 in the first half against the Cowboys and used 35 second-half points to force overtime, where UCF prevailed 60-56.
Hendricks didn't disappoint in the championship game of the Baha Mar Hoops tournament. After a slow start offensively by both UCF and Santa Clara, Hendricks emerged as the only double-digit scorer for the Knights, draining 19 points.
Overall, Taylor averaged 13.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game over the course of all three games.
In just the second week of the season, Hendricks has been recognized twice by The American. Week one saw him earn a spot on the weekly honor roll after beginning the season with 23 points against UNC Asheville and a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double against FSU.
Hendricks now averages 15.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game and is the team leader in both categories. He is shooting 51.7% from the floor 41.7% from beyond the three-point arc.
