Three Knights Ranked to Conclude Fall Season

ORLANDO - The UCF women's tennis team wrapped up its 2022 fall season with two ranked singles players, along with one doubles tandem. The rankings were highlighted by Marie Mattel moving up from preseason rankings to No. 47 and the duo of Mattel and Sophia Biolay checking in at No. 29.

In the last edition of the rankings that were announced in early September, the Knights had one singles player and one doubles tandem ranked. Not only did the Black and Gold add a ranked player, but also have a new tandem in the rankings.

Mattel was ranked No. 90 in the ITA preseason rankings list after a dominant season, where she made the NCAA singles championship as the highest-ranked AAC player and went 13-5 in dual match play. This fall season, she has found success in both collegiate and professional tournaments. Mattel participated in four collegiate tournaments this fall, going 7-6 overall. In professional tournaments, she played at the ITF W15 Champaign and was undefeated in the qualifying draw to advance to the main draw, going 2-1 in her professional matches this season.

Nandini Sharma checked into the rankings at No. 110. She was not ranked to start the fall season, but did earn AAC Player of the Week honors in the spring of 2022. While Sharma did not participate in any professional tournaments this fall, she took part in two collegiate tournaments as a singles player. She found the most success at the Fall Ranked Spotlight, going 3-2 at the tournament.

Doubles tandem Mattel and Sophia Biolay also checked into the rankings for the first time this season. The pair of Knights went undefeated in the lone tournament they've played together, the UNF Fall Invite, becoming flight champions after going 3-0.
