CARY, N.C. – Marie Mattel and Nandini Sharma of the UCF women's tennis team wrapped up their time at the ITA All-American Championships this week in the second collegiate event on the Knights' fall schedule.
Mattel, who entered the preseason ranked 90th in the ITA's singles rankings, earned a huge three set victory to begin her run in the qualifying draw on Monday. Mattel traded sets with Auburn's No. 61 Ariana Arseneault but was able to win the decisive third set with a score line of 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. The following day saw Mattel eliminated from the qualifying draw with a 6-3, 6-3 loss to North Carolina's No. 31 Reilly Tran.
Mattel and Sharma were in action in doubles at the event. The pair were edged in a tight contest in their first match of the tournament, falling to Mary Stoiana and Gianna Pielet of Texas A&M by a score of 8-7 (7-3) in the qualifying round. The pair took place in a consolation match later that day, suffering another close defeat, this time at the hands of Duke's Emma Jackson and Brianna Shvets by a count of 8-6.
UP NEXT
The next collegiate event on the Knights' schedule is set to begin on Oct. 13 as multiple members of the Black and Gold will participate in the ITA Regional Championships in Atlanta, Ga. The next professional event, the ITF W25 Florence, is set to begin on Oct. 10.
