Carrera Named AAC Golfer of the Month

ORLANDO — After earning his first career tournament win at the Hartford Hawks Invitational, Luis Carrera has been named American Athletic Conference Player of the Month, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Carrera carded a 16-under-par 200 to open the season by winning the individual title at the Hartford Hawks Invitational. He fired a 69 (-3) in the first round to tie for fourth on the individual leaderboard before recording a stellar second-round score of 63 (-12), tying for the best round in program history, to take over first place.

Carrera closed out the tournament with a 68 to claim the individual title by five strokes.

The honor is the first of Carrera's career and the first for the Knights since Johnny Travale earned the award for the month of October last year.
