ORLANDO – Bogdan Pavel and Lleyton Cronje of the UCF men's tennis team are tabbed as the No. 24 in doubles in the ITA preseason rankings heading into the 2022 fall season. The duo jumped six spots from No. 30, which is where they finished their spring campaign.
Last season, Pavel and Cronje earned spots on the American Athletic Conference All-Conference Doubles Team, becoming only the seventh and eighth to do so in program history. This was the third All-Conference Team appearance for Pavel, while Cronje made his first AAC All-Conference appearance in his first year as a Knight. The spring 2022 season was Cronje's first at UCF, but during his sophomore season at VCU, he won the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year and was named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team.
As partners in nine matches last season, Cronje and Pavel were 6-3 overall, including a 6-3 win over No. 14 Stanford's No. 8 pairing of Fery/Rotsaert. All of Pavel and Cronje's matches together were played at the No. 1 spot in doubles.
Pavel was named to the AAC All-Conference Team his sophomore year (2020-2021) and Freshman year (2018-2019) and named an ITA Doubles All-American along with Trey Hilderbrand.
The 2022-23 men's tennis schedule begins with the UCF Fall Sizzler on Sep. 16, the Black and Gold's home tournament. The fall slate includes five tournaments, including a potential sixth, should any Knight qualify.
