SOUTH KENT, Conn. – For the fifth consecutive year, UCF men's golf won the team title at the Hartford Hawks Invitational with a team score of 829 (-35) and fifth year Luis Carrera claimed the individual crown with a score of 200 (-16) at the Bull's Bridge Golf Club Tuesday afternoon.
UCF fired its lowest round in program history in the second round of the event with a score of 266 (-22) to eclipse the previous mark of 268 (-20) achieved at the FAU Invitational in 2019. The Knights' three-round total tied for the best ever at the event, while also tying as second lowest 54-hole mark in program history.
The Knights finished nine strokes ahead of the second-place team after recording a 284 in the first round (-4), 266 (-22) in the second round and 279 (-9) in the final round.
Carrera turned in an awesome performance to earn his first career tournament win, carding a 16-under-par 200. He fired a 69 (-3) in the first round to tie for fourth on the individual leaderboard before recording a stellar second-round score of 63 (-12), tying for the best round in program history, to take over first place. Carrera closed out the tournament with a 68 to claim the individual title by five strokes.
Johnny Travale, who won the individual crown last year, finished third with a three-round score of 205 (72, 64, 69) and Egor Eroshenko ended in a tie for 12th at one-under-par (215: 73, 71, 71).
Juan Camilo Vesga notched a score of 217 (+1) with a 70 in the first round, 76 in the second and 71 in the third round. Markus Braadlie rounded out the lineup for the Knights, recording a 220 (+4: 77, 68, 75).
Chase Haygood and Cooper Tate competed in the invitational as individuals, with Haygood carding a 217 (+1: 74, 71, 72) to tie for 24th and Tate earning a 227 (+11: 78, 75, 74).
UP NEXT
The Knights will have some time to enjoy the win as their next tournament is Oct. 3, when they will head to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, hosted by University of Arkansas.
