ORLANDO - Following a dominating performance in the UCF Invitational, the UCF volleyball team will look to keep its perfect record as it travels to Lawrence, Kansas for the Jayhawk Classic this weekend. The Knights will face Omaha Thursday and Kansas Friday before finishing their first road trip of the season against Lipscomb Saturday. All three games will take place at the Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.
The Knight's game against Kansas will be streamed on ESPN+, while the other two matches will have live stats available.
THE KNIGHTS
After reaching the 2,000 kills milestone in the UCF Challenge a week before, McKenna Melville followed it up with another excellent performance, recording 60 kills over 12 sets and winning MVP of the UCF Invitational last weekend.
She now sits 55 kills away from tying Renata Menchikova's school record for kills with 2,151.
Through five games, the Black and Gold lead the American Athletic Conference in assists, kills, and blocks per set, as Amber Olson is 11th in the nation in assists per set with 10.80.
Abby Hansen has totaled 27 blocks thus far, leading the conference with 1.35 per set. Her presence has been massive for the Knights, especially in Saturday's win over Miami, where she recorded a season-high nine kills. Chloe Scheer leads the team with 3.40 digs per set.
THE FIELD
The Knights begin the Classic against Omaha at 5 p.m ET. on Thursday. The Mavericks have begun their 2022 campaign with a 4-3 record, defeating the AAC's Wichita State 3-1 in the MH Hospitality Omaha Classic earlier this month.
At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, UCF takes on the tournament host, Kansas. The Jayhawks began the season with eight straight wins before falling to UNLV 3-1 in the penultimate match of the Kansas Invitational on Sept. 9.
The final match of the Knight's non-conference slate is against Lipscomb at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Bison are 3-5 and have had a tough non-conference schedule to begin the season, falling to both No. 4 Louisville and No. 14 Stanford in straight sets.
