UCF’s Andrew Osteen Named to 2022 Ray Guy Award Watch List

ORLANDO - UCF redshirt senior punter Andrew Osteen has been named to the watch list (one of 48 players) for the 2022 Ray Guy Award presented by the Augusta (Georgia) Sports Council to the nation's top collegiate punter.

From Enterprise, Alabama, Osteen averaged 41.1 yards per punt in 2021 (42.2 in his career). His career totals for  punts (168) and punting yards (7,083) both rank fourth all-time at UCF--and his career average is second. In 2021 he had 12 punts of at least 50 yards.

The 2022 watch list was compiled based on the 2021 Ray Guy Award semifinalist List, the top 10 NCAA punters from 2021, the 2021 all-conference teams, the 2021 All-America teams, the 2022 pre-season all-conference teams and eligible punters on the 2021 watchlist.

The complete list of candidates will be released Nov. 2. In mid-November, the Ray Guy Award committee will meet to select 10 semifinalists, who will be announced Nov. 8. A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will then vote for the top three finalists to be announced Nov. 18. After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation's top punter. The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN in December 2022.

Punters are evaluated on their overall statistics and contribution to the team. Particular emphasis is placed on the following statistics; net average, percentage of total punts inside the 20-yard line and percentage of punts not returned.

Augusta orthopedic surgeon and sculptor Dr. John Savage Jr. created the bronze Ray Guy Award trophy in the likeness of the punting legend. The award was first presented in 2000.
