Eugene, Ore. – The UCF women's track team had a big opening day at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.
The day got started with the 4x1 relay. The squad of Rayniah Jones, Ciara Holback, Beyonce Defreitas, and I'Asia Wilson posted a time of 43.22 and finished second in their heat to earn an automatic spot in the finals. It will be the Knights first time racing in the 4x1 final since 2013 when they placed second.
Next up was Jones in the 100-meter hurdles. In the final heat of the semifinals, she finished with a 12.95 to qualify for the final on Saturday.
"We had a great day today. Anytime you come to the big stage and you keep your composure and make the finals, that is a huge accomplishment," Head coach Dana Boone said. "I'm very happy for the ladies, however we still have work to do. The goal is to get on the podium."
The Knights will now be in the finals for the 4x1, 100H, discus, and triple jump on Saturday. They will also have Brittany Floyd competing in the heptathlon tomorrow and on Saturday.
