ORLANDO – It's NCAA Tournament time for the UCF women's golf team as the Knights are in Ann Arbor, Michigan for the Ann Arbor NCAA regional, hosted by the University of Michigan.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament will tee off on Monday, May 9 and wrap up on Wednesday, May 11. There are 12 teams from the country in the Ann Arbor regional competing for one of the four top spots. The top two individuals not on an advancing team advancing will also move on to the national championship, which takes place from May 20-25 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Overall, a total of 72 teams and 36 individuals will be participating in six regional competitions around the nation throughout the week.
In Ann Arbor, the Knights, who are the No. 5 seed in the regional, will be playing on Michigan's par-71 U-M Golf Course, which measures out at 6,625 yards. The Black and Gold will tee off on hole 10 beginning at 8 a.m. ET Monday morning, along with Arkansas and Virginia Tech.
The full field of competition the Knights will take on in the regional includes No. 5 San Jose State, No. 8 Virginia, No. 18 Michigan, No. 20 Arkansas, North Carolina, Washington, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Pepperdine, Xavier and Oakland University. Six others individuals from various schools that did not get in the tournament will also be competing in the Ann Arbor regional.
Head coach Emily Marron will roll out a lineup consisting of American Athletic Conference Player of the Year Tunrada Piddon, Freshman of the Year Zoe Allaux, Jess Baker, Alyssa Lamoureux and Ana Laura Collado, with AAC All-Conference member Camille Banzet serving as a potential substitute should Marron decide to utilize her.
This will be UCF's 16th regional appearance and the eighth in the last 11 seasons. Since head coach Emily Marron took over the program ahead of the 2012-13 season, the Knights have either made it as a team or sent an individual to every NCAA regional. This year mark's the third straight time the Knights have made an NCAA regional appearance as a team (excluding the COVID-shortened 2019-20 season).
After finishing third at the conference championship, the Knights secured their seventh top-five finish of the season. The Black and Gold have won two tournaments to this point in the 2022 campaign in the Evie Odom Invitational (Oct. 3-5) and the Brickyard Collegiate (April 4-5).
Last season, head coach Emily Marron's squad made it to the NCAA regional championship in Louisville, Kentucky, where the Knights finished tied for eighth place out of 18 teams. In 10 years as UCF's head coach, Marron has led the Knights to six NCAA Tournament appearances, two conference championships, and has twice been named AAC Coach of the Year.
The Knights were ranked 26 overall in the latest WGCA poll, released on May 6. UCF was receiving 18 top-25 votes.
