ORLANDO – UCF men's basketball head coach Johnny Dawkins announced his fourth addition to the program in 24 hours on Friday with the signing of Pitt transfer Ithiel Horton.
"We're very excited to welcome Ithiel to our UCF Family. He's a talented player with a ton of potential, and we believe that he'll be able to take a lot of things he learned at Pitt and apply them here with us from day one," said Dawkins.
"Ithiel's ability to drain it from beyond the arc, combined with his athleticism and agility, will add an extra dimension to our team, and we're looking forward to getting him in the building as soon as possible."
A 6-foot-5 guard, Horton played in 35 games and started 26 in two seasons at Pitt. In 2021-22 with the Panthers, he averaged 9.8 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in 13 appearances. A deep-ball specialist, Horton knocked down 25-of-66 opportunities from beyond the arc last season, good for 36.1 percent. He also notched 14 steals in his 13 games played and was an 87.5 percent free-throw shooter.
Prior to signing with the Panthers in 2019, Horton spent his freshman year at Delaware in 2018-19, where he was named to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team and CAA Academic Honor Roll. He was a four-time CAA Rookie of the Week honoree after appearing in 33 games and starting 23.
As a rookie at Delaware, Horton averaged 13.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. He shot 43.3 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three-point range to lead all CAA freshmen in scoring. He tied a program freshman record at UNCW (Jan. 10, 2019) with 31 points, going 10-of-15 from the field and 9-for-13 from behind the arc.
In his career, Horton has played in 68 games and started 49 between the Panthers and Blue Hens. He owns a career 40.5 percent field goal percentage and has shot 39.2 percent from three-point range. He's averaged 11.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
Horton sat out the 2019-20 season after transferring to Pitt due to NCAA transfer rules.
He joins recent transfers Brandon Suggs, Lahat Thioune and Michael Durr, as well as incoming freshmen Taylor and Tyler Hendricks as the latest addition to Dawkins' 2022-23 recruiting class.
