Vespi Earns Player of the Week Honors

ORLANDO, Fla. – On Monday afternoon, the American Athletic Conference announced its Player and Pitcher of the Week recipients for the week of May 2. UCF's Ben Vespi was named as the Pitcher of the Week after his career-outing against Tulane on Friday. The Knights finished the week 2-1, improving to 10-5 in AAC play. This is the first time Ben Vespi has earned Pitcher of the Week honors this season, as teammate Gephry Pena was named to the honor roll.

Ben Vespi pitched a career-outing on Friday evening, earning the start against Tulane in the opener. He worked seven innings of two-hit baseball allowing one run and striking out a career-high seven batters. He began a stretch of 15 straight Green Wave batters retired, posting 12 of the 15. Both the strikeouts and seven innings pitched were career highs, as UCF earned the series opening win.
 
UCF will be back in action this week traveling to North Florida on Tuesday and South Florida this weekend.
