ORLANDO – The UCF track and field team is set to open the 2022 American Athletic Conference Championship on Friday in Wichita, Kansas.

The Knights open the three-day competition on Friday at 1 p.m. with the hammer throw, with the heptathlon beginning at 1:30 p.m.
On the track, the 1500m trials start at 7:30 p.m. The 200m and 400m hurdle trials will follow at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., respectively.
The final three heptathlon events open Saturday action at 12 p.m. The Knights open field event action with the long jump at 4 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m., track trials begin for the 100-meter hurdles. The Black and Gold have competitors in the trials for the 800m (7 p.m.), 400m (7:30 p.m.) and 100m (8 p.m.) and close out the day in the 3000m steeplechase at 8:30 p.m.
The final day of action begins at 3:30 p.m. with the triple jump and discus. The 4x100 relay squad will kick off the track events at 5:30 p.m. as the field events round out with the high jump.
Finals will take place for the 1500m (5:50 p.m.), 100H (6:10 p.m.), 400m (6:30 p.m.), 100m (6:45 p.m.), 800m (7 p.m.), 400H (7:15 p.m.), 200m (7:30 p.m.) and 5000 (7:45 p.m.). The 4x400 relay closes out the weekend at 8:35 p.m.
Entering the championship, UCF holds 41 of The American's top 10 marks in 15 events, with one Knight among the top 10 in nearly every event in which they have a competitor this weekend. UCF has the top mark in in five events, including both relays.
A three-time 2022 American Athletic Conference indoor champion and The American's 100-meter hurdles record holder, Rayniah Jones enters the outdoor championship with the league's top mark in the 100H this season. Her season-best 12.79 ranks eighth nationally in the event. Jones also ranks second and third in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, respectively.
Latasha Smith, the 2022 American indoor champion and meet record holder in the 400-meter run, enters the outdoor championship with the league's top mark in the event and ranks 15th nationally with a school record 52.01. Smith also has the second-best mark in the 200-meter dash in the league this season. Danielle Bess ranks third in the 400m (53.32).
The 2022 American Athletic Conference indoor pentathlon champion and record holder, Brittany Floyd, enters the outdoor meet with the top mark in the heptathlon. Her school record 5643 points also ranks 13th in the nation.
UCF enters the outdoor championship with the top marks in both the 4x1 and 4x4 relays.
Katie Pinnell enters the weekend with the third-best mark in the 800-meter run with her season best 2:07.42. Charlotte Crook ranks second in the 1500m with her school record 4:20.11.
Selena Wright enters the 400-meter hurdles ranked second with a personal best 58.94 and Brenna Mullaney ranks third in the steeplechase with a personal best 10:57.91.
A pair of Knights are among the top three marks in the high jump as Natalia Madison's personal best 1.75m ranks second and Kaliah Jones' personal best 1.72m ranks third. Jasmine Scott-Kilgo has the third-best long jump mark at 6.18m.
Two-time American Athletic Conference triple jump champion Asherah Collins enters the outdoor meet with the third best mark in the event at 13.05m. UCF's discus record holder Adrienne Adams enters the conference meet with the second-best mark in the event at 53.69m.
The meet also serves as the final event in the 2021-22 War on I-4 rivalry series. Three points are up for grabs for the team with the higher conference finish. UCF has already clinched the overall series victory and leads 55-26.
