TULSA, Okla. – No. 49 UCF men's tennis took down No. 40 Tulsa by a score of 4-1 on Friday, April 8, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Despite dropping the doubles point, the Knights came back stronger in singles, winning four straight to clinch the match all while getting to see the AAC Championship Tournament courts.
Tulsa took the doubles point after winning the last two courts. First, No. 77 Lleyton Cronje and Cooper White dominated to a 6-1 win on court two over Siddall and Thelwall-Jones.
But the Golden Hurricane grabbed the next two as No. 47 Trey Hilderbrand and Bogdan Pavel fell to Di Marco and Pearson, 3-6, on court one and Alan Rubio and JC Roddick dropped their match, 2-6, to Hampe and Santalla.
In singles, the Knights charged back to take the first four courts.
Leading the way was No. 77 Trey Hilderbrand as he defeated Connor Di Marco on court four by a score of 6-1, 7-5 to tie the match at one all.
Then on court two, Bogdan Pavel earned a steady win over Stefan Hampe on court two, 6-4, 6-3, to take the lead.
Moments later, Alan Rubio got the 6-4, 6-2 win on court three over Ezequiel Santalla.
Three courts left and the Knights only needed one more for the win and it was JC Roddick who made a big comeback to win on court five over Adham Gaber by a score of 2-6, 7-5, 6-0, clinching the match for UCF.
Two courts remained unfinished in tough, even battles.
On court one, Lleyton Cronje faced No. 96 Kody Pearson. The two were in a tight third set but the match went unfinished at 6-4, 1-6, 55.
Quinn Snyder was also holding strong against Callum Gale on court six, but their match also went unfinished at 2-6, 7-6(6), 4-3.
