CORAL GABLES – All four members of the UCF track and field team sit among the top 10 after the first day of the heptathlon at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on Friday.
Natalia Madison leads the way, sitting in second with 3,277 points after four events. Brittany Floyd is third with 3,248 points. Holly Cassels is sixth with 2,901 points and Kennedie Reese is ninth with 2,809 points.
The day started with three Knights – Floyd, Madison and Reese – running personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles. Floyd finished third in 13.99; Madison finished fourth in 14.27 and Reese finished seventh in 14.60.
Madison took the top spot in the high jump, matching her personal best of 5-7.75/1.72m. Cassels also matched her personal best of 5-4.25/1.63m to tie with Floyd for third.
All four Knights finished in the top 10 in the shot put, led by Floyd's third place showing with a mark of 35-8.5/10.88m. Reese and Madison both set personal bests in the event. Reese finished fifth with a throw of 35-4.5/10.78m and Madison finished ninth with a throw of 34-2.5/10.42m.
Three Knights finished in the top 10 of the 200-meter dash to close out the first day of events. Floyd finished second in 24.75 and Madison finished third in 24.86. Reese finished 10th in 26.73.
The final three events – long jump, javelin and 800-meter run – take place on Saturday, beginning at 1:15 p.m.
