ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 19 UCF women's tennis team opens conference season on the road at No. 43 SMU on Friday, April 8, in Dallas, Texas and at No. 46 Tulsa on April 10, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Both matches will have live stats and will be live streamed.
The Knights are on a five-match win streak over four ranked teams heading into conference play. UCF upset No. 9 Oklahoma State, swept both No. 66 FAU and No. 69 BYU and topped No. 75 Harvard and Yale both with a score of 4-1.
In this week's rankings, Marie Mattel jumped up sixteen spots to No. 84 in singles rankings after going on a three-match win streak. Evgeniya Levashova also jumped back up a few spots to reach No. 91 this week.
In doubles rankings, Levashova and Mattel are staying strong in the 20s as they are ranked No. 29 in the country. The duo is unstoppable at #1 doubles and is on a six-match win streak with a 6-2 overall record this season.
Mattel and Nandini Sharma also were able to crack back into the rankings, reaching No. 64.
The Knights are on a roll in singles as Nandini Sharma leads the team with an eight-match win streak and Sophia Biolay is on a five-match win streak.
CONFERENCE PLAY
UCF is set for conference play as the Knights face three AAC opponents to close out the regular season of No. 43 SMU, No. 46 Tulsa, and South Florida all on the road.
The Knights are the two-time defending conference champions after going undefeated, 3-0, in conference play last season and taking down South Florida, Houston, and No. 46 Tulsa in the AAC tournament.
UCF was also undefeated against conference opponents in the shortened 2020 season, going 2-0.
In 2019, the Knights went 6-0 in conference play and went on to sweep Memphis, Tulsa, and South Florida, 4-0, in the conference tournament to be crowned champions.
Most notably, the Knights have not lost to an AAC opponent since 2018.
THE FIELD
THE MUSTANGS
No. 43 SMU is 11-7 overall this season and 4-0 in conference. The Mustangs have been able to get three-ranked wins over No. 40 Tulsa, 5-2, No. 50 VCU, 4-0, and No. 60 Denver, 5-2.
The Mustangs have two tandems ranked with No. 71 Hadley Doyle and Jackie Nylander and No. 84 Claudia Bartolome and Nylander.
UCF and SMU have had three common opponents so far this season. The Knights defeated No. 17 Baylor and LSU while the Mustangs did not, but both teams fell to Texas.
The Knights have the slight edge in the all-time series with the Mustangs, 8-7, and UCF is on a three-match win streak as it has not lost to SMU since 2018.
THE GOLDEN HURRICANE
No. 46 Tulsa is 12-6 overall but has a 3-2 conference record. The Golden Hurricane is also 9-2 when playing at home.
UCF and Tulsa have had two common opponents this season. The Knights earned a huge win over No. 9 Oklahoma State while the Golden Hurricane was swept, but both teams fell to No. 2 Oklahoma.
Tulsa leads the all-time series, 9-5, over UCF but the Knights are on a five-match win streak as they have not lost to the Golden Hurricane since 2018.
Last season, the Knights defeated the Golden Hurricane in the AAC Conference Championship match, 4-1, to win back-to-back titles.
