Knights Post Strong Showing to Open AAC Championship

Championship Central Leaderboard/Stats

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – A pair Knights led the charge for UCF on day one of the American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship in Brooksville, Florida on Friday as the Black and Gold posted a solid first round to sit tied for fourth at the end of the day with a 287(-1) total.

Following round one, the Knights sit nine strokes back from first place Houston after the Cougars opened with a 10-under-par 278.

UCF senior Teddy Tetak and sophomore Egor Eroshenko were phenomenal for head coach Bryce Wallor's Knights in the opening round of the conference championship as the duo both posted 2-under-par 70 scores to sit tied for eighth place after the first round. Tetak knocked down three birdies and an eagle on the front nine, but two bogeys on the back nine troubled him in the second half of the day. Eroshenko, meanwhile, only hit over-par twice, and five birdies helped him offset those errors to keep him in the top 10.

Senior Johnny Travale, who came into the event as UCF's top golfer with a team-low scoring average of just 70.76, posted a 1-over-par 73 on day one after two birdies and an eagle on the back nine helped him to make up for some earlier mistakes. Travale is tied for 21st.

Shooting 74(+2) on Friday was senior Clement Charmasson. The Toulouse, France native led all Knights at the 2021 AAC tournament, placing fifth with a 212(-5) total. He is currently tied for 28th one round into the 2022 championship.

Rounding things out, senior Luis Carrera opened the tournament with a 78(+6) first round of play.

The Knights will tee off in round two of The American's Men's Golf Championship on hole one Saturday morning at 8:50 a.m. Fans can follow along live on Golfstat.com here.
