#18 UCF vs USF/Temple Thursday, April 21 | 1:00 PM ET LIVE STATS & STREAM |
ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 19 UCF women's tennis team is set to compete as the No. 1 seed in the 2022 American Athletic Conference Tournament beginning with quarterfinals against the winner of South Florida and Temple on Thursday, April 21, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Knights earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament for the fourth year in a row after going 15-6 overall, 3-0 in conference play, and most notably, grabbed eight wins over nationally ranked opponents, including a 4-3 decision over No. 9 Oklahoma State.
UCF looks to win its eighth overall conference championship and its third-straight American title. The Knights won their first AAC title in 2019 after sweeping Memphis, Tulsa, and South Florida. There was not a tournament in 2020 due to the pandemic, but UCF came back in 2021 to repeat as champions.
The Knights will head into the tournament on an eight-match win streak with four of them being 4-0 sweeps.
In singles, three Knights are on the run as Nandini Sharma leads with an 11-match win streak, good for third in program history, while Marie Mattel and Sophia Biolay are both on a six-match win streak.
Two Knights will come in ranked as Marie Mattel is No. 101 and Evgeniya Levashova is No. 106 in singles while as a doubles team, the pair is ranked No. 33.
THE FIELD
The AAC Championship Tournament begins on Wednesday, April 20, with the first round. The Knights get a bye and will play the winner of South Florida and Temple at 1:00pm on Thursday, April 21.
THE BULLS
No. 9 seed, South Florida, is 5-15 overall this season and is on a four-match losing streak.
The Knights already swept the Bulls, 4-0, last weekend to help UCF clinch the all-sports trophy for the sixth-consecutive year.
South Florida may lead the all-times series, 19-10, over UCF, but the Knights have been dominant in recent years as they are on a six-match win streak and have not lost to the Bulls since April of 2017 or 1,831 days ago and counting.
THE OWLS
No. 8 seed, Temple, is 11-5 overall on the season and was 9-0 at home, but the Owls most recently fell to Tulsa, 1-6.
