Mattel Earns Third Player of the Week Honor

ORLANDO, Fla. – After another strong weekend, Marie Mattel was named the American Athletic Conference's Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced on Tuesday.

The honor marks Mattel's third of her career and the sixth for the Knights this season.

Mattel becomes only the second Knight to earn three AAC Player of the Week honors in a single season.

Mattel went 2-0 in singles while extending to a five-match win streak and picked up a win in doubles over the weekend to help the Knights go undefeated with a 4-3 win over SMU and a 4-0 sweep over Tulsa.

In singles, the junior flipped the script in her match against SMU. After dropping the first set, 3-6, Mattel did not let her opponent win another game as she closed out the match, winning 6-0, 6-0 in the final two sets.

Mattel kept this momentum against Tulsa and earned a quick 6-2, 6-0 decision on court four, leading to the sweep over the Golden Hurricane.

In doubles action against Tulsa, the doubles point came down to court one where Mattel teamed up with Evgeniya Levashova. The pair earned the tiebreak win over the Golden Hurricane to clinch the doubles point, 7-6(5).

The junior is 11-5 in singles and 7-7 in doubles so far during the dual match season.
