Biolay Named AAC Player of the Week

ORLANDO, Fla. – After clinching the upset over No. 17 Michigan, Sophia Biolay was named the American Athletic Conference's Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

The honor marks Biolay's first of her career and the third for the Knights this season.

Biolay had a pair of wins in both singles and doubles matches over the three-match weekend, including the clincher to upset No. 17 Michigan at home.

First, Biolay, went undefeated against Eastern Michigan on Thursday as she teamed up with Nandini Sharma in doubles and the pair earned a 6-4 win on court two over their opponents. Biolay then won by a quick decision of 6-1, 6-2 on court four in singles.

The freshman carried this momentum into Saturday's big matchup against No. 17 Michigan. The tandem of Biolay and Sharma got a dominating doubles win over Kari Miller and Julia Fliegner from Michigan, 6-1, extending their doubles win streak to four straight and 7-1 overall on the season. Biolay had a slow start in singles but was able to come back and force a third set. She went on to defeat Fliegner by a score of 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the match and upset over No. 17 Michigan, 4-2.

In the match on Sunday against No. 5 Texas, Biolay and Sharma fell in doubles, but Biolay was battling her opponent of Vivian Ovrootsky in singles, but the match went unfinished, 3-6, 4-5.
