ORLANDO – As the UCF women's basketball team prepares for the 2022 Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Championship, the Knights reached another milestone in their history season, earning the first Associated Press Top 25 ranking in program history.
UCF (22-3, 14-1 The American) made its debut at No. 25 in the national poll.
The Knights closed out the regular season on a 10-game win streak and enter as the No. 1 seed at The American Championship.
On March 6, Diamond Battles was named The American Player of the Year while head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson was named Coach of the Year. Brittney Smith was tabbed Sixth Player of the Year. The UCF trio of captains – Diamond Battles, Masseny Kaba and Tay Sanders – each earned all-conference honors. Battles was a unanimous first team honoree while Kaba and Sanders earned third team recognition.
The Knights have the second-best scoring defense in the country and are holding opponents to just 48.1 points per game. In the last six games, UCF has not allowed its opponent to score more than 48 points. The Black and Gold also rank second nationally in field goal percentage (33.4) and 11th in steals per game (11.4).
UCF sits 22nd in the NCAA NET ranking as of March 7and were No. 23 in the USA Today/WBCA poll on March 1.
The Knights open the 2022 Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Championship on March 8, playing the winner of the No. 8 Tulsa-No. 9 Wichita State matchup at 1 p.m. ET in Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
