Knights Soar Past Eagles, 6-1

ORLANDO, Fla.  – The UCF men's tennis team soared past Florida Gulf Coast with a score of 6-1 on Friday, March 4, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
 
It's been over a month since the Knights last played at home, and they made the return home a special one.
 
UCF kicked things off with a strong doubles performance to clinch the doubles point.
 
Leading the way was court one where No. 30 Lleyton Cronje and Bogdan Pavel proved their ranking as they defeated Max Damm and Magnus Johnson by a score of 6-2 to set the tone for the match.
 
Trey Hilderbrand and Cooper White followed suit on court two, earning a 6-4 win over Eric Oncins and Randy Wilson to clinch the doubles point.
 
On court three, JC Roddick and Quinn Snyder were also up over Juan Montes and Marcelo Sepulveda, but the match went unfinished at 5-4.
 
In singles, Alan Rubio earned a quick win over Randy Wilson on court four with a score of 6-1, 6-2 while JC Roddick picked up his first singles win on court five over Gugli Stefanacci shortly after by a score of 6-2, 6-1 and the Knights grabbed a big 3-0 lead.
 
Then on court three, Bogdan Pavel broke away to defeat Marcelo Sepulveda by a score of 6-3, 6-1 to clinch the match, 4-0.
 
The match was played out and Lleyton Cronje battled hard to add another for the Knights with a 7-6(2), 6-4 win on court two over Juan Montes.
 
Quinn Snyder was fighting on court six but was not able to overcome Juan Lopez as he fell 7-6(1), 6-4.
 
Down to a super tiebreak on court one, No. 55 Trey Hilderbrand grabbed a few big points to get a comfortable 10-6 win over Magnus Johnson and winning the match by a score of 5-7, 6-3, 10-6.

The Knights have a quick turnaround as they are back in action tomorrow.
 
Fans are encouraged to come out and support both the women's and men's tennis team on Saturday as the Knights host Michigan in a double header with the women's match at 12:00 p.m. and the men's beginning at 5:00 p.m.
 
Saturday's match will offer food trucks, games, and chalking as early as 11:30 a.m., autographs between 2:30-3:30 p.m. and a Free Kids' Clinic at 3:30 p.m. To sign up for the clinic, click here.
