ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF women's tennis team closes out home action this week, hosting Yale on Thursday, March 24, and Florida Atlantic on Sunday, March 27, for Senior Knight at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Both matches will have live stats and will be live streamed.
The Knights are coming off an outstanding, undefeated weekend after taking down No. 69 BYU in a 4-0 sweep and No. 75 Harvard by a score of 4-1, and most notably, upsetting No. 9 Oklahoma State, 4-3.
Marie Mattel was named the AAC Player of the Week for the second time this season after her incredible performance. Mattel went 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles, clinched two matches, and upset two higher ranked opponents.
In the newest ITA rankings, UCF jumped up 10 spots to break back into the top-20, reaching No. 18.
The dynamic duo of Evgeniya Levashova and Marie Mattel have been nearly unstoppable. They are on a five-match win streak at the number one doubles spot and have taken down the No. 1 and No. 38 doubles teams to jump to their highest ITA doubles ranking of No. 28. This is also the highest doubles rankings for the Knights this season.
In singles action, the Knights are proving to be a top contender as Nandini Sharma has reach a six-match win streak on court six, Sophia Biolay is on a four-match win streak, and Marie Mattel has won three straight.
THE FIELD
THE BULLDOGS
Yale is 8-6 on the season and 4-2 when on the road. The Bulldogs will come to Orlando on a four-match win streak after defeating Troy, 4-0, UMass, 6-1, FAU, 4-3, and FIU, 4-2.
UCF and Yale have had two common opponents of Oklahoma State and FIU and each team earned one win but over opposite opponents.
The Knights and Bulldogs have only seen each other three times in history, and UCF has won the last two meetings.
THE OWLS
No. 66 FAU is 10-8 on the season and 1-3 when on the road. The Owls will come to Orlando on a two-match losing streak, after falling to Yale, 3-4, and Houston, 1-6.
UCF and FAU have had two common opponents so far this season as both teams lost to Miami and Texas.
The Knights have dominated the all-time series over the Owls, 28-11, and UCF is on a 10-match winning streak as it has not lost to FAU since 2005.
