Knights Fly Past Owls, 4-1

ORLANDO, Fla.  – No. 48 UCF men's tennis team flew past No. 67 Florida Atlantic by a score of 4-1 on Sunday, March 20, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
 
UCF earned its fourth win over an in-state opponent despite dropping the doubles point.
 
FAU was able to clinch doubles, but the Knights took control from there and never gave up another point.
 
In doubles, Trey Hilderbrand and Bogdan Pavel grabbed a big win over No. 41 Hunter Robbins and Carles Sarrio on court one with a score of 6-1, extending to a four-match win streak.
 
But No. 60 Lleyton Cronje and Cooper White fell to Kevin Huempfner and Krolo, 4-6, on court two and JC Roddick and Alan Rubio also fell 4-6 to Alvaro Fernandez Horta and Finn Stodder on court three.
 
The Knights shifted momentum and took charge of singles. First, JC Roddick earned a quick 6-1, 6-0 decision over Gerard Escandell on court five to tie the match at one all. Roddick is now on a four-match win streak.
 
On court one, Lleyton Cronje defeated Kevin Huempfner by a score of 6-1, 6-3 to take the 2-1 lead over the Owls while on court two Bogdan Pavel found his rhythm to take down Carles Sarrio, 6-3, 6-1.
 
With three courts left, the Knights only needed one and it was No. 61 Trey Hilderbrand who clinched the match for UCF with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Nicolas Jadoun on court four.
 
The two remaining courts were both leading and both one game away from taking their matches. Alan Rubio was up 7-5, 5-3 over Alvaro Horta Fernandez while on court six, Quinn Snyder led Finn Stodder by a 6-3, 5-4 decision but both matches went unfinished.
 
UP NEXT
The Knights now turn to conference play and will close out the month of March against SMU at home on Friday, March 25, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
