UCF Heads To Houston For Midweek

ORLANDO – The UCF women's basketball team opens a two-game road swing on Wednesday, heading to Houston for a midweek matchup against the Cougars in the Fertitta Center.

The game between the Knights (16-3, 8-1 The American) and the Cougars (11-11, 4-6 The American) will stream live on ESPN+.

OH CAPTAINS, OUR CAPTAINS
With Masseny Kaba's American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor on Monday, each member of UCF's captain trio has earned the league's weekly honor.
 
Kaba averaged 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game to lead UCF to another undefeated week of league play to help the Knights (16-3, 8-1 The American) remain at the top of the conference standings. She followed Diamond Battles, who collected the honor on Jan. 31 after averaging 17.5 points per game while shooting 58.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc. Tay Sanders earned the distinction on Jan. 17, averaging 20.5 points per game while shooting 57.7 percent from the field.
 
UCF's three different honorees marks the most in a single season for the Knights as members of The American.

KNIGHT NOTES

  • The Knights rank third in the nation, limiting opponents to 51.2 points per game. UCF is also seventh nationally in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to a 34.6 field goal percentage.
  • UCF averages 11.3 steals this season, which ranks 18th in the country, and is 43rd with 19.42 turnovers forced. The Black and Gold have forced each opponent this season into double-digit turnovers, with eight committing 20+ turnovers.
  • Diamond Battles paces the Knights with 14.5 points per game, having reached double figures in 14 contests this season. The Winter Haven, Fla., native is one of three league players with six or more 20-point contests this season.
  • Tay Sanders is UCF's second-leading scorer on the season, averaging 11.2 points per game.
  • Alisha Lewis, who tied The American and UCF single game records with 10 steals against Houston, ranks 14th in the country in steals per game, averaging 2.89. Her 55 steals ranks 32nd among Division I student-athletes.
  • Destiny Thomas leads UCF and ranks 124th nationally with 7.9 rebounds per game. She is one of six league players with seven or more games with 10+ rebounds this season.
  • The Knights, who have appeared among the teams receiving votes in 12 straight USA Today/WBCA Top 25 polls so far, received votes in the AP Top 25 on Jan. 17.

 
SCOUTING HOUSTON
The Cougars are 11-11 overall, with a 4-6 mark in league play. Houston enters Wednesday on a two-game win streak.
 
Laila Blair leads the way for the Cougars, averaging 11.9 points per game. Blair and Julia Blackshell-Fair average 2.4 and 2.5 assists per game, respectively. Tatyana Hill leads the Cougars in rebounding with 8.0 boards per game.
 
The Knights hold a 20-6 lead in the all-time series and have won 11 in a row over Houston.
