ORLANDO, Fla. – After a combined 4-0 across singles and doubles this past weekend, Noel Saidenova was named the American Athletic Conference's Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The honor marks Saidenova's first of her career and the first for the Knights this season.
Saidenova's outstanding weekend began on Friday, February 4, as the Knights visited No. 7 Virginia. Saidenova and Nandini Sharma teamed up for the first time on court three in doubles and found their rhythm to defeat the Cavaliers by a score of 6-3.
Then in singles on court three, Saidenova was leading, 6-4, 4-6, 4-3, and eventually won by retirement over Virginia's Sofia Munera.
The freshman carried this momentum into Sunday's sweep over Georgia Southern at home where she played on court two in doubles with Nadja Bay Christians. The duo clinched the doubles point with a big 6-2 win over the Eagles.
Saidenova then dominated her way to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Georgia Southern on court three in singles, finishing first to give the Knights an early 2-0 lead.
So far this season, Saidenova is undefeated on court three for singles and is 3-2 overall and 2-2 in doubles.
