McCabe and Litchfield Earn American Player of the Week Honors

ORLANDO, Fla. – On Monday afternoon, The American Athletic Conference announced its Player and Pitcher of the Week recipients for Opening Weekend. UCF would sweep the conference awards, as Ben McCabe and David Litchfield were named player and pitcher of the week respectively.

Ben McCabe started all three games for the Knights this weekend as the Designated Hitter. McCabe finished the weekend 6-for-8 and drew three walks. He added two stolen bases to his impressive start to the 2022 season, while posting six hits. McCabe collected three extra base hits, including two home runs, a solo-shot on Saturday and a three run-blast on Sunday. The redshirt junior posted a .750 average on opening weekend and slugged 1.625. He was hit by one pitch and stole four bases on the weekend, while scoring seven runs as the Knights swept Siena. The junior ranks tied for fourth in batting averge (.750) in the country and second in the country in slugging percentage (1.625). McCabe is also fourth in the country in on base percentage (.833).
 
David Litchfield | Right-Handed Pitcher | R-Sr. | Longwood, Florida
David Litchfield worked six innings on opening night in his first career start. The super senior allowed two hits and struck out a career high eight batters, earning the win in the Knights 12-0 victory. Litchfield tallied 16 first pitch strikes during his outing and was one of two shutouts on the weekend.
 
The Knights will be back in action tomorrow, February 22, as they head to Jacksonville, Florida to compete against North Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
