#24 UCF Falls to #5 FSU in Clearwater Finale

Box Score (PDF)

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The UCF softball team concluded their weekend at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational with an 8-0 loss to No. 5 Florida State in five innings. The Seminoles combined to no hit the Knights, the first time they've been held hitless in a game since 2014.

The Black and Gold were stride for stride with FSU in the first two innings, with starter Kama Woodall striking out three Seminoles.

With two outs in the third inning, FSU found life from an error in the infield, extending the inning. The next batter doubled, driving in a pair of runs. Two more runs were added with the very next batter, as a single to right field got by and rolled to the fence, allowing the batter to score and give the Seminoles a 4-0 lead.

FSU added another four runs in the fourth, with the first scoring via a single down the right field line. A wild pitch scored the next run to make it 6-0 and was followed up with a two-run homer to extend the lead to 8-0.

The Seminoles' starter, Kathryn Sandercock was relieved after four perfect innings, striking out four UCF batters along the way.

Shannon Doherty was the only Knight to reach base, drawing a four pitch walk off of new pitcher Emma Wilson, spoiling the perfect game. Doherty advanced to second on a wild pitch before making it to third via a ground out. She was stranded there as the final UCF batter of the day flied out to center field.

UCF concludes the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational with a pair of wins over current Big 12 teams, beating Texas Tech 7-3 in 8 innings and No. 11 Texas 15-10.

Sunday's no-hitter was the first time that UCF had been no-hit since Apr. 12, 2014 and was just the fifth time they've been held hitless in the team's 21 seasons.
