ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF softball team was defeated by Wisconsin by a score of 9-1 in five innings in its first game at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational.
The day started out in the Black and Gold's favor as Jada Cody knocked in her 11th RBI of the season, smacking the ball the opposite way driving in Kennedy Searcy.
Wisconsin answered back in a hurry, as an RBI single by Kayla Konwent evened the score in the bottom of the first.
After a scoreless second inning on both sides, the Badgers struck for four runs in the bottom of the third. Konwent plated another two runs, homering to left field. Another two runs came into score later on a wild pitch and an error on the catcher.
Wisconsin tacked on three more in the fourth, continuing to put the ball in play and move runners from station to station. The bottom of the fifth saw the Badgers put the nail in the coffin, scoring the eighth and final run needed for a run-rule on a sac fly to right.
The Knights have scored in the first inning in their previous four contests, with this being the first time they've lost when doing so this season. UCF has scored first in five of six contests thus far and are now 4-1 when doing so.
