ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 19 UCF women's tennis team is set for a three-match weekend on the road beginning with a visit to LSU on Friday, February 18, before making the trip to No. 21 Miami on Sunday, February 20, and FIU on Monday, February 21.
The Knights are back in action after a weekend off. Prior to that, UCF traveled to No. 7 Virginia and hosted Georgia Southern. The Knights put up a fight against the Cavaliers but fell 5-2. Three courts earned a win as the No. 3 doubles team of Noel Saidenova and Nandini Sharma grabbed a 6-3 win, Saidenova kept the momentum going with a win on court three in singles and Marie Mattel triumphed in a battle on court four, winning by a score of 2-6, 7-5, 13-11. UCF then returned home to sweep Georgia Southern, 7-0.
THE FIELD
THE TIGERS
LSU has only seen action in two matches during the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a pair of losses to No. 20 Tennessee and No. 24 Oklahoma State both by a score of 4-0.
One Tiger is ranked in singles with No. 82 Safiya Carrington.
Last season, the Tigers defeated Boston University, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before falling in a close match to Michigan, 3-4, in the second round.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams in dual season
THE HURRICANES
No. 21 Miami is 4-1 overall this season with a pair of 7-0 sweeps over FGCU and FAU, a 4-1 win over Kansas, and a ranked win over Old Dominion. Its only loss came from No. 15 USC, 3-4, in the first round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
Two Canes are ranked in singles with No. 89 Eden Richardson and No. 92 Isabella Pfennig while two tandems are also ranked with No. 43 Daevenia Achong/Eden Richardson and No. 50 Diana Khodan/Maya Tahan.
Last season, the Hurricanes defeated No. 41 FIU, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before the Knights knocked them out with a 4-1 win in the second round of the tournament.
Miami leads the all-times series, 2-9, over UCF but the Knights won both of the matchups last season.
THE PANTHERS
FIU is 2-2 overall on the season with a 4-2 win over Illinois and a 4-0 sweep over Long Island. The Panthers fell 1-4 to Florida and 2-4 to Columbia.
One Panther is ranked in No. 104 Yasmine Kabbaj.
Last season, the Panthers went 12-2 and played in the Conference USA Championship match but fell to No. 34 Old Dominion. FIU went on to the NCAA Tournament but fell to Miami in the first round.
The Panthers and Knights have a long history dating back to 1981. FIU leads the all-time series, 11-22, over UCF, but the Knights have won the past three meetings.
