ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF softball team has cracked into the top 25 in all four polls this week after starting the 2022 season 3-1, including an upset win over No. 12 Georgia.
The Knights checked into the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 at No. 24 this morning. The Black and Gold began the season as the first team outside of the poll looking in, listed as the first team in the receiving votes section of the preseason poll. UCF was last in the NFCA Top 25 in week 12 of the 2021 season where they were ranked No. 25.
According to the NFCA's poll, the Knights are slated to face four more top 25 teams this week. UCF is back in action against Liberty tonight, a team that was previously ranked No. 24 but has since slipped to receiving votes. On Thursday, the Black and Gold will head west to take part in the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational, one of college softball's premiere tournaments. They'll face No. 19 Michigan, No. 18 Tennessee, No. 19 Texas and No. 5 Florida State during the tournament, as well as facing Wisconsin and Texas Tech.
ESPN/USA Softball's poll also saw UCF jump from receiving votes to No. 24. The last time the Knights were ranked in that poll was in week 11 of the 2021 campaign, sitting in a tie for 24th.
Historically, the Knights first broke into both polls back in 2015. They later went on to earn their highest rankings in each poll, climbing as high as No. 13 in the NFCA Top 25 and No. 14 in USA Softball.
UCF also checked in at No. 24 in D1 Softball's rankings this week after previously not being ranked in the preseason. Softball America was the lone poll not to have UCF at No. 24, slotting them in at No. 25.
