Knights Post Another Record-Setting Start at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – A return to the Clemson Indoor Complex saw the return of a multiple-record setting performance for the UCF Track and Field team. The Black and Gold saw three records set on the opening day of the Tiger Paw Invitational.
 
In the first field event of the weekend, Leiya Green added her name to the UCF records as she landed at 19-10.75/6.06m on her second attempt in the long jump. Not only was the mark a personal best for Green, she also tied Sonnisha Williams for the freshman record in the event.
 
At the first indoor meet of 2022 – which was at Clemson, Latasha Smith shattered her personal best to captured the 400-meter dash record. On Friday, she again flew around the track, improving her time to 52.88 to break her own record in the 400m.
 
The back-to-back defending American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week Rayniah Jones added yet another accolade to her resume on the opening day of the Tiger Paw Invitational. In the preliminary round of the 60-meter dash, she ran a personal best 8.03, putting her one-hundredth of a second off the UCF record in the event. Moving through the semifinals and into the final, she ran 8.01, breaking Jackie Coward's record (8.02) from the 2012 season.
 
In addition to the trio of records, UCF added an event title to its opening day performance. Charlotte Crook ran a personal best 4:47.77 to win the mile by more than seven seconds.
 
UCF started the day advancing a trio to the semifinals of the 60-meter dash as Kaylor Harris won her heat and Selena Wright clinched the final spot to join Jones in the semifinal. Harris then posted an 8.19 to advance with Jones to the final.
 
Kambry Smith improved her mile time by 13 seconds, running 5:06.33 to join Crook and Mariana Rodriguez (5:03.54) in the top 15 of the mile. Ashlyn Green posted a personal best 52-5.25/15.98m to join Chloe Hill (55-10.5/17.03m) in the top 20 of the weight throw.
 
Saturday begins with the high jump at 11 a.m., with the 800-meter run set for a noon start.
