UCF Adds Oregon Transfer Abby Hansen

ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF volleyball team added another member to the 2022 roster as the team announced the addition of transfer Abby Hansen on Thursday.

Abby Hansen, who is a six-four middle blocker from Phoenix, Arizona, comes to UCF from the University of Oregon, where she spent three seasons playing for the Ducks.

"We knew we needed to add quality depth in the middle and the opportunity presented itself that we could get a Pac-12 middle hitter to solidify our middle hitting group," head coach Todd Dagenais said, "At her size, we knew we were going to be battling a lot of high-level programs for her. Fortunately, she clicked with the team so well. I'm sure she chose us because of the culture of the team, how the team believes, how they approach their academics, and how well rounded they are. I think that's what gave us the advantage. Now we have three bona fide, quality starting middle blockers who we are all excited about."

As a redshirt junior in 2021, Hansen was named to the 2021 Oregon Invitational All-Tournament Team after posting 2.22 kills per set with a .720 hitting percentage and notched 1.44 blocks per set. She finished the year hitting .285 with 115 total blocks and earned the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on September 20.

In the 2020-2021 season, Hansen was second in the Pac-12 with 95 total blocks and fifth with a team-leading 1.25 blocks per set. She also added 1.07 kills per set. Hansen was one of three players in the conference to record at least eight blocks in a match three.

She recorded a career-high 13 kills on 17 swings to hit .647 in a sweep over Colorado and two days later, recorded a career-high 10 blocks in another win over Colorado.

In her redshirt freshman campaign in 2019, Hansen averaged 1.36 kills per set and 0.91 blocks per set and finished the year with 64 kills and 43 total blocks. She then played beach volleyball for the Ducks in the spring.

She chose UCF because of the Master's in Healthcare Administration and the renowned alumni program.

"You could tell she was an instant fit, personality wise, academic wise, and athletic wise. She's going to be fun to watch in the Black and Gold," Dagenais added.

Hansen is the fourth new addition to the team, joining Emily Wilson (OH/San Diego) and incoming freshmen Emma Truluck (OH/DS/Ocala, Florida) and Abby Schomers (Setter/Omaha, Nebraska).
