ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF men's tennis team will begin the 2022 season with a new program best preseason ranking of No. 11 in the ITA Preseason Top-25 Team Poll announced on Wednesday.
UCF is set to face eight teams ranked in the preseason top 25, including five in the top 10. To see the entire list, click here.
The Knights will begin where they left off as they concluded the 2021 season ranked 11th as well after a historic dual match season. UCF earned its first American Athletic Conference title and first NCAA tournament win last season, going 22-4 overall and undefeated in conference play.
UCF will get a chance to climb the rankings right away, as they're scheduled to face No. 8 Georgia in its first match of the season on Monday, January 17, at home followed shortly by taking on No. 1 Florida in Gainesville, Florida on Saturday, January 22.
The Black and Gold had a strong fall campaign as Trey Hilderbrand secured a top-20 ITA end of the year singles ranking of No. 16 after making it to the round of sixteen at ITA Fall National and earning the runner up position at ITA Regionals. This was his highest singles ranking in his career.
Hilderbrand teamed up with Bogdan Pavel earned and the pair earned the No. 22 spot in the ITA end of the year rankings while Hilderbrand and Lleyton Cronje checked in at No. 41.
