ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 20 UCF men's tennis fell to No. 14 Stanford with a score of 4-0 on Monday, January 31, in the ITA Kickoff Championship match at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
The doubles point came down to a tie break on court two, but Stanford was able to get the edge to clinch the doubles point.
First, Alan Rubio and Quinn Snyder fell to Sangreet Sridhard and Timothy Sah on court three, 6-1, giving Stanford an advantage. But Lleyton Cronje and Bogdan Pavel did what they do best and took down the No. 8 duo of Arthur Fery and Alexandre Rotsaert by a score of 6-3, tying it up.
All eyes turned to court two as Trey Hilderbrand and Cooper White teamed up to face Axel Geller and Tomas Kopczynski. The two teams battled into a tie break, but Stanford was able to get the win in 7-6(4) to clinch the doubles point.
The Knights put up a fight in singles, but Quinn Snyder first fell to Sangreet Sridhar, 6-1, 6-2, on court six, giving Stanford a 2-0 lead.
Then in a top 20 match-up, No. 16 Trey Hilderbrand took on No. 7 Arthur Fery on court one by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Shortly after, Cooper White dropped his match to Aryan Chaudhary on court five, 6-2, 6-3, as Stanford clinched the match 4-0.
Three matches went unfinished, but the Knights were sitting well. On court two, Alan Rubio was up 6-2, 3-4 against Alexandre Rotsaert while Lleyton Cronje was at set point, nearly forcing a third against Axel Geller, but the match went unfinished at 3-6, 5-3.
Bogdan Pavel was also up over Max Basing on court four, 6-4, 3-2 before the match was clinched.
UP NEXT
The Knights begin a long stretch of playing on the road by first facing Wake Forest on Friday, February 4, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
