ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF softball team received votes in 2022's first release of the ESPN.com / USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll.
The Knights finished the 2021 season receiving votes in USA Softball's poll after reaching the final of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional in which they were narrowly edged by nationally seeded Florida State 2-0. It was the first NCAA Tournament appearance for the Black and Gold since 2016.
UCF will open up the season against four straight opponents listed in USA Softball's preseason poll. The Knights host No. 19 Georgia on Feb. 10 to begin the season before facing Minnesota and Fresno State on Feb. 11 and 12 with both teams also receiving votes. The Knights will finish opening weekend facing Longwood and then face Liberty in a mid-week contest, another team who received votes in the preseason rankings.
In total, the Black and Gold are scheduled to face 13 teams ranked or receiving votes in the preseason poll, including three ranked in the top 10 (No. 5 Florida, No. 8 Texas, No. 10 Virginia Tech).
The Knights are one of three members of the American Athletic Conference to be listed in the poll. Wichita State leads the way at No. 25 with 25 voting points while the Knights check in closely behind them with 14 voting points. Rounding out the conference members receiving national attention is South Florida, who sits with two voting points.
