Rayniah Jones Named The American Track Athlete of the Week

ORLANDO – A pair of personal bests and the 200-meter dash title led Rayniah Jones to the American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Jones won her heat to advance to the 60-meter hurdles final on Friday at the Hokie Invitational. In the final, she ran a personal best 8.07 to finish second and was the top collegiate athlete. Her 8.07 mark ranks eighth nationally in the 60H and moved her into second on the UCF all-time performers list.

She followed that by matching her personal best and winning the 200-meter dash on Saturday. Her 24.07 is the second-best time conference in the 200m.

Tuesday's honor marks the first time Jones has collected the indoor nod. She was named The American Track Athlete of the Week twice during the 2021 outdoor slate.

The Miami native is the second Knight to earn the indoor distinction this season, following Latasha Smith who garnered the award last week. The repeat honors mark the first time since the 2017 indoor season that UCF has gone back-to-back in the conference weekly awards. It is the first time as members of The American that two different Knights have claimed consecutive Track Athlete of the Week honors.

UCF returns to action on Feb. 4, heading to College Station for the Charlie Thomas Invitational.
