ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 11 UCF women's tennis team is prepped to face Penn in the season opener at home on Saturday, January 22, at the USTA National Campus. Admission to the 12:00 p.m. match is free.
The match will have live stats and will be live streamed.
UCF, the defending conference champions, is the highest-ranked Florida team to start the season at No. 11. Three Knights are ranked in singles with Evgeniya Levashova leading the way at No. 37 followed by No. 64 Valeriya Zeleva and No. 102 Marie Mattel. Two tandems are ranked as well. The duo of Levashova and Zeleva earned the 50th spot while Mattel and Nandini Sharma are closely behind at No. 55.
The Knights look to build off their historic 2021 season where they posted a 20-5 overall record and went on to win their second consecutive American Athletic Conference title, earning its seventh conference title in program history (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2019, 2021). UCF continued to the NCAA Tournament where it saw its second-straight Sweet Sixteen appearance.
UCF returns eight players from last year's conference championship team and adds Sophia Biolay and Noel Saidenova to the roster who will suit up in the Black and Gold for the first time.

THE QUAKERS
Penn was ranked three times in the ITA end of fall rankings. The duo of Iuliia Bryzgalova and Marija Curnic earned a No. 30 ranking in doubles while two Quakers grabbed top 100 spots in singles: No. 53 Bryzgalova and No. 81 Sabine Rutlauka.
Penn has not played a regular dual match since April 13 last year and only finished two matches in 2021.
The Quakers lead the all-times series between the two teams, 4-1, but the Knights won the last meeting back in 1998.
