Latasha Smith Named The American Track Athlete of the Week

ORLANDO – A record-setting performance led Latasha Smith to her first American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Smith set the UCF record and won the 400-meter dash and turned in a top 10 finish in the 300-meter dash at the Clemson Invitational over the weekend.

On Jan. 14, the sophomore ran a personal best 53.16, not only winning the 400m but also setting the school record in the process. Her time is the best among American Athletic Conference performers by more than a second and ranks third on the Division I indoor performance list this season.

She closed out the weekend with a personal best 37.81 to finish sixth in the 300-meter dash on Saturday.

The West Palm Beach, Fla., native is the first Knight to earn the indoor distinction this season and the first since 2020 to garner the accolade.

The Knights are back in action this weekend, heading to the Hokie Invitational, hosted by Virginia Tech Jan. 21-22.
