ORLANDO, Fla. – Trey Hilderbrand and Bogdan Pavel of the UCF men's tennis team are set to play in the ITA Fall Nationals in San Diego, California beginning Thursday, November 4 through Sunday, November 7 at the Barnes Tennis Center.
Trey Hilderbrand will represent UCF in singles and will team up with Bogdan Pavel in doubles in one of the toughest tournament of the fall season.
Hilderbrand qualified in singles after finishing as a finalist at the ITA Southeast Regional a few weeks ago while the No. 3 duo of Hilderbrand and Pavel qualified as an ITA Wild Card.
At regionals, Hilderbrand was able to string together five wins in the tournament to advance all the way to the final. He faced No. 31 Martin from Georgia Tech in the final where he put up a strong fight but fell in three sets. So far this fall, Hilderbrand is 9-5 in singles after a couple of great runs at both ITA All-Americans and ITA Regionals.
Hilderbrand is no stranger to ITA Fall Nationals as he was crowned the singles champion in 2020 after defeating teammate, Gabriel Decamps, in the title match. Hilderbrand became the first player in UCF history to win the honor.
The UCF duo made history, becoming the first teammates to face each other in the championship match since 2008. That year saw Ohio State's Bryan Koniecko, now UCF women's tennis head coach, defeat his teammate Justin Kronauge in three sets. The only other instance of an all-teammate singles final in the men's ITA National Championships' 42-year history came back in 1989 when a pair of Michigan student-athletes went three sets as well.
