UCF is finally back in black. After being limited to white helmets throughout the season due to supply chain issues, the Knights are breaking out the black lids for the first time this year for the War On I-4.
"With the help of multiple vendors across different sectors, we were able to navigate multiple challenges, including production delays, to surprise everyone for the final game of the season," said Brad Anderson, director of equipment operations at UCF.
And what a surprise it is. Not only did UCF catch fans off guard with the return of black helmets, but with the debut of the recently updated Knighthead logo as a decal. Shimmering in chrome gold on each side of the helmet, it's an awesome and fierce look, giving us our first on-field glimpse of UCF's updated brand as the program prepares to head to the Big 12.
The new helmets are, of course, paired with black jerseys and black pants for the Knights' rivalry game against the Bulls. This continues the streak of UCF going with a blackout against South Florida at home every year since 2017. That includes three individual looks, three different helmet designs, and two different jerseys.
UCF probably looks its best in blackouts, and we've seen quite a few versions over the years. This week's combo marks the seventh unique blackout that the Knights have worn since 2016. It just feels so right for UCF to wrap up the regular season in a classic on-brand combo with a twist from the new era of UCF Athletics.
