ORLANDO – Following an incredible final stretch to close out the fall portion of the 2021-22 men's golf schedule, UCF senior Johnny Travale was named the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Month for the month of October, the conference announced on Tuesday.
With the honor, Travale picks up his first career conference Golfer of the Month award.
"We are very proud of the effort that Johnny has been making to improve his mental game and his focus on the shot at hand versus getting wrapped up in his past play or focusing on future outcomes," said head coach Bryce Wallor. "Johnny has been one of the hardest working players that I have coached at UCF, and he is now showing the results of accepting and valuing the mental side of the game and the work that must be done in this area. We are lucky to have an athlete with both his determination and physical attributes."
A unanimous all-conference honoree in 2020-21, Travale was dominant throughout the month of October for the Knights.
Travale logged a tournament win and added a runner-up finish over the course of the month. Travale claimed individual medalist honors at the Carolina Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 11-12 at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Rounds of 69-70-70=209 (-7) on the par-72, 6,929-yard layout gave Travale the victory by one stroke, and the UCF senior led the field with a 4.33 stroke average (-8) on par-5s. Travale added a runner-up showing at the Isleworth Collegiate on Oct. 17-19 at Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Florida, compiling rounds of 70-71-69=210 (-6) on the par-72, 7,544-yard track to finish one shot off the pace.
Travale leads all Knights with a 70.91 scoring average to this point in the season.
Travale and the Knights will enjoy a few months off from play before returning to the course on Feb. 12, 2022 for the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.
